MP reassured over Olympic Sunday trading
9:40am Wednesday 2nd May 2012 in Oxford
OXFORD East MP Andrew Smith raised concerns that plans for a temporary relaxation of Sunday trading hours during the Olympics could become more permanent.
As MPs voted through the changes, Mr Smith sought a promise from Government that the move to suspend restrictions over eight Sundays in the summer would “not be used as a Trojan horse to bring forward wider measures of deregulation.”
He was told it would not be used as a precedent.

and what about the workers??? When Sunday trading was brought in, we were told it would not be compulsory, that soon changed to be part of the working week. We was told that anyone who worked a Sunday would get extra money, more lies. a Sunday is now classed as a normal working day. So anyone who works Saturday and Sunday get the same pay as someone working Monday and Tuesday.

Will you see the M.D. of Tesco, Sainsburys, etc going in to man the checkout on a sunday?

Major supermarkets open 24 hours on a Sunday, High Street stores usually open 9-6ish.
You can even shop at Amazon 24hrs on a Sunday (just like England).

And what about my question about the MDs?
Works just fine in Scotland (which is still part of the UK).

They'll be on their Iphones or Blackberries monitoring sales performance on a "live" feed.

It would be an absolute positive if England & Wales were brought into line with the more civilised parts of the UK that allow 24 hour trading on Sundays.
