Art lovers tune in to sound sculptor's work

WHO said video killed the radio star?

Sound artist Janek Schaefer brought his radio orchestra to Oxford at the weekend.

He was at Modern Art Oxford in Pembroke Street creating music from the cacophony of community radio stations picked up by his collection of vintage radios.

Members of the audience could get involved by using one of the radios to tune in and out of the radio frequencies, allowing them to make new arrangements of the piece of music.

Mr Schaefer, 41, said: “I use sound as a sculptural form. I am not really into interactive art but what I love about it is that it makes an ephemeral thing like sound tangible.”
