Artistic donations net £1,600 for hospice

AN AUCTION of items donated to East Oxford hospice Helen & Douglas House has raised £1,630 for the charity.

The items were sold at a 20th Century art and design auction at Mallams auctioneers in St Michael’s Street, Oxford.

Three of the pieces raised the bulk of the money – a pair of plaster locusts, a lithograph of Tottenham Court Road Underground station in London by Eduardo Paolozzi and a glass goblet vase by Nils Landberg.

The locusts made £325 including gift aid, the lithograph went for £275 including gift aid, and the goblet fetched £480.

Hospice commerce and merchandise manager Sarah Offill said: “We offer training to our shop staff and volunteers, so they can identify donated items that may achieve a high value at auction or online.

“The money raised is of enormous value, because it helps Helen & Douglas House continue to care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and support their families.”

The event took place during Children’s Hospice Week, which ran from May 18 to May 25.
