Branches cause a tight squeeze

Boats were having to squeeze their way down the Oxford canal yesterday after branches from a large tree fell, blocking most of it off.

Littlemore resident Jane Parsonage came across it at about 9.30am as the canal was about to be cleared.

She said: “I don’t know whether it was a storm or not that caused it.”

I'm disappointed there's no mention of the condition of the tree. Did it drown? Is it alright?
People really need to care a bit more.

After contacting British Waterways I received the following reply. At 9.20 yesterday morning we attended an accident on the Oxford Canal, it was immediately obvious that the tree in question was in serious distress, and a surgeon was called as a matter of urgency, in the meanwhile all was done to see that the tree was comfortable, on attendance the surgeon diagnosed a severe break to the Trunk and major fractures to a number of Limbs that had led to a major loss of sap. Despite an emergency sap transfusion I am sorry to say that the tree passed peacefully away at 9.58. I hope this puts your mind at rest Mark.
Thanks for the update Crusader. Tragic tragic news indeed. My thoughts are with its saplings at this difficult time......
