Branches cause a tight squeeze
10:30am Tuesday 7th August 2012 in Oxford
Oxford canal
Boats were having to squeeze their way down the Oxford canal yesterday after branches from a large tree fell, blocking most of it off.
Littlemore resident Jane Parsonage came across it at about 9.30am as the canal was about to be cleared.
She said: “I don’t know whether it was a storm or not that caused it.”

At 9.20 yesterday morning we attended an accident on the Oxford Canal, it was immediately obvious that the tree in question was in serious distress, and a surgeon was called as a matter of urgency, in the meanwhile all was done to see that the tree was comfortable, on attendance the surgeon diagnosed a severe break to the Trunk and major fractures to a number of Limbs that had led to a major loss of sap. Despite an emergency sap transfusion I am sorry to say that the tree passed peacefully away at 9.58. I hope this puts your mind at rest Mark.
I'm disappointed there's no mention of the condition of the tree. Did it drown? Is it alright?
People really need to care a bit more.
