Murder squad gets more time to quiz woman

DETECTIVES were yesterday given more time to question a 29-year-old woman over the death of St Ebbe’s woman Vittoria Baker.

Oxford police launched a murder investigation after Ms Baker, 52, was found dead at about 7.45am on Thursday in her Friars Wharf flat.

Police have not yet said how she died or how long she may have been dead for. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place today.

Officers were still on guard at the block of flats last night and expected to stay until next week.

Police said they were first called to the address by a someone concerned for the welfare of an occupant at the property. The 29-year-old woman arrested at the address on suspicion of murder was last night being held at St Aldates’ police station. It is understood she is Ms Baker’s daughter.

Det Ch Insp Vince Grey said: “We are still in the early stages of the investigation and, with enquiries ongoing and a person in custody, we do not wish to speculate on the cause of the woman’s death or the circumstances surrounding it.”
