IT’S that time of year when people across the county do something a little different and find something to laugh about for Red Nose Day.

Everyone from school children to office staff to shop floor workers will turn out in red and bring along a smile in order to raise money for the annual charity event tomorrow.

In the run up to the fun on Friday, the Oxford Mail has asked people throughout the county what they’re are doing to help raise awareness and generate funds for the charity in the process.

Staff at Sainsbury’s in Bicester are already in the Red Nose Day spirit and have been dressing up and holding competitions, raffles and tombolas in store.

The team will also be taking part in a quiz held at The Nightingale Pub tonight ahead of the big day on Friday.

Peter Coutts, Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Bicester, said: “Our colleagues love getting involved with Red Nose Day fundraising and we’re all really proud to support such a great cause.

"There are some brilliant activities planned this year and we look forward to inviting customers to join in with the fun.”

Staff and residents of the Sanctuary Care Nursing home in Wantage will be hosting a Red Nose Day themed bake sale throughout the day.

While wearing red throughout the day, residents and carers will be producing a variety of cakes and other treats to generate cash.

All are welcome to come and participate with the offer of a cup of tea and a slice of cake in exchange for a donation to the charity.

Headington Oxfam will be hosting a dress-up event with the theme of 'toys and games' and promise to host a number of fun activities in a bid to raise money.

Meanwhile, Musical Mayhem, a small organisation which organises classes on children’s’ songs across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, are hosting a ‘Where’s Wally’ series of events until tomorrow in Watlington and Chinnor.

Babies and toddlers will be invited to dress up as Wally, join in songs and share tea and cake.

Monica Nelson, who runs Musical Mayhem, said: "We’re usually doing something daft at Musical Mayhem but it gets even sillier for Red Nose Day.

“Our families always get behind our fundraising events and we’re expecting lots of little Wallys to help us raise money for Comic Relief’s amazing work.”

Schools across the county will also be doing their bit, with Northbourne Primary School in Didcot donning red as part of a planned non-school uniform day.

Pupils will be trying their hands at comedy as they bring in their best jokes to tell throughout the day aiming to surpass their previous total donations of £251 last year.
