A SOUTH OXFORDSHIRE swimming pool will close for more than a month for repair work.

Berinsfield pool at Abbey Sports Centre will be closed from Sunday. It is hoped work will be finished in time for the new year.

The pool itself will be retiled, minor defects repaired and the pool area redecorated.

South Oxfordshire District Council cabinet member for leisure Bill Service said: “It’s very important that we carry out this essential maintenance and redecoration work as soon as possible.

“We’re aiming to get this done leading up to Christmas so people can go for a swim in the new year.

“However the other facilities at Abbey will still be very much open for business and those wishing to go for a swim can use other pools at district council leisure centres around the area.”

Visitors will be able to use other facilities at the centre including the gym and badminton hall, and most classes.

Ben Whaymand, partnership manager for pool managers Better, said: “The refurbishment works will see a noticeable improvement in the pool area.”

Further information on how this will affect swimming lessons and swim-only members is available at reception.

Anyone wishing to swim during the works can do so at Didcot Wave, Henley, Thame, Faringdon, Wantage and White Horse Leisure Centre, Abingdon.
