MOTORISTS in South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse will be able to pay for parking using their phone in all district council car parks from Monday.

The RingGo cashless payment system was trialled in two car parks in Abingdon and two in Wantage earlier this year and was deemed a success by council bosses.

RingGo allows users to pay using a smart phone app, by text message, telephone or the RingGo website.

Motorists enter their vehicle’s registration, make, model and colour and choose the length of time they want to park.

They then pay using a debit or credit card and do not need to place a ticket on their car.

Instead, the information is passed to traffic wardens who can check the licence plates of parked vehicles against their records.

South Oxfordshire District Council cabinet member for technical service Robert Simister said: “The new system is very easy to use and will mean that motorists no longer have to worry about carrying change with them if they are intending to come to one of our car parks.”
