A man armed with a baseball bat entered McDonald's in the early hours of this morning and demanded money.

And police are investigating whether the incident is linked to a similar one last year at the same location.

Thames Valley Police said at 1.46am the man entered the restaurant in Oxford Road near Benson, approached the counter and threatened staff with the bat before demanding money.

A member of staff handed over money from a safe and the man left the scene.

According to police, he is believed to have run towards Benson.

No customers were in the restaurant at the time and no members of staff were injured.

Police said the man was approximately 6ft to 6ft 1in and was wearing a grey-coloured Nike hooded top, grey tracksuit trousers, a dark-coloured facial covering which may have been a balaclava, and was carrying a JD Sports drawstring bag.

Det Sgt Antony Maddison, from Abingdon Force CID, said: “Officers are investigating the circumstances of the offence and I would like to appeal to anyone who saw anyone matching the description of the offender in the area at the time of the robbery to speak to the police.

“People in Benson may have seen someone running with a bag or acting suspiciously at around 1.46am – please call officers if you saw something which may be significant.

“There were similar offences at the same location last year – at the moment we are keeping an open mind as to whether this offence is linked to the previous offences or not.”
