A councillor representing Sandford and the Wittenhams ward on South Oxfordshire District Council has resigned.

Jon Woodley-Shead who was elected on May 7, stepped down from the role yesterday.

The Conservative Party councillor was elected with 1,030 votes, almost 600 more than his closest challenger Simon Thompson of the Liberal Democrats.

South Oxfordshire District Council was unable to confirm why he had resigned.

If a new councillor is to be elected a written notice has to be sent to the returning officer of the district council by two voters.

The election will then take place no more than 35 working days after this is received.
