A FLAG designed by pupils in Wallingford has come home after being flown in Westminster.

Children at Crowmarsh Gifford Church of England primary school welcomed John Howell MP, as he returned a flag they designed as part of the 2015 Flag Project on Friday.

Crowmarsh’s flag was one of 80 designed by primary school pupils flown in Parliament Square, Westminster, in May.

Flora Barton, head, said: “We are delighted that our children’s design was chosen as they all worked so hard to create a flag which highlighted all that they loved about their local community.

“Creating a simple yet richly symbolic design is more difficult than one might imagine.

“They were so proud to have their flag chosen for Oxfordshire.”

More than 450 primary schools took part in the project to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the Simon de Montfort parliament, which saw elected representatives of shires and boroughs meet for the first time.

Today’s Parliament asked a primary school in every constituency to create a flag.

The oak leaves on Crowmarsh’s flag represent plants and life and how the pupils thrive as learners.

Yellow represents the light that shines on the community and blue represents the River Thames.
