A NEW book is being published to highlight Wallingford's links with the TV detective drama Midsomer Murders.

The series, first broadcast in 1997, now stars Neil Dudgeon as detective John Barnaby, and has become one of the best loved dramas on TV.

Roaming Midsomer, a sequel to Exploring Midsomer, is a compilation of walks and places to eat, based on locations used in the TV series.

Holly Kirkham, a spokeswoman for The History Press, said: "Using their intimate knowledge of the subject, local photographer Chris Behan and outdoor writer Martin Andrew have created a book that takes the reader on walking tours of the real Midsomer - and is a must for all those who love this charming part of rural England."

The new book, published by The History Press, features walks selected by Mr Andrew and is illustrated with 195 of Mr Behan's full-colour photographs.

Roaming Midsomer is divided into chapters for easy Sunday afternoon outings and includes all postcodes for eating and drinking establishments.

Last year's cycling festival in Wallingford, which is returning this year on Sunday, June 26, formed the backdrop to a recent episode.

Businesses in Wallingford have enjoyed a boost in trade thanks to fans of the TV drama and the Visit Midsomer website, backed by South Oxfordshire District Council, promotes the series' connections with the area.

Tour companies offer visitors an inside experience into the long-running drama, and interest around the globe has grown after episodes were screened on Netflix.

Roaming Midsomer: Walking and Eating in the Murderous Heart of England by Chris Behan and Martin Andrew is published by The History Press, price £12.99.
