HUNDREDS of people gathered in Wallingford to cheer on the town's carnival and procession.

The carnival took place on Saturday and this year's theme was William - after William the Conqueror visited in 1066.

This year people from the town are raising funds for the Nasio Trust, to help young people make a charity trip to Kenya.

Among those taking part were dancer Theah Dix, and Alice Hull, seven, from St John's Primary School, who dressed as a daffodil.

Carnival committee chairwoman Theresa Jordan has been helping to organise the carnival for the past 20 years.

She said: "We didn't get the hot weather we would have liked, but at least it stayed dry for the day.

"Hundreds of people turned out to watch and there is always a lovely reception for the parade in the Market Place.

"It was a lovely day for the town - the school pupils loved taking part in the parade.

"Wallingford School staff and pupils made a huge contribution."

There were stalls in the Market Place from 11am and a local producers’ market in the Regal Centre.

The carnival procession left Wallingford School at 1pm, headed by Mayor of Wallingford Ros Lester and the carnival ambassadors.

It passed along St George’s Road, Croft Road, St John’s Road and through the town via the High Street and on to The Kinecroft.

From 5pm there were musical performances on The Kinecroft, from local groups including Pure Harmony and The Egg Men.
