A RENEWABLE energy developer will host a public meeting tomorrow night about Sandford Lock Hydro.

Low Carbon Hub, which is building three Archimedes screws on the Lasher Weir, wants to share its plans for the main works.

Contractors prepared the site during the spring and will soon put up temporary infrastructure ahead of construction.

Villagers in Sandford and Kennington are welcome to attend the event, which runs from 7.30pm until 9pm, at Sandford Village Hall.

It is hoped the hydro could generate enough activity to power 450 homes.

Residents initially came up with the idea to install a hydro on the weir, and enlisted the help of Low Carbon Oxford which has already built a similar power plant at Osney Lock in Oxford.

The community raised £800,000 of the cash to put towards the project's £3.2m price tag, which has not yet been fully raised.

Residents have received help from Oxford’s Low Carbon Hub to raise the £3m needed, by offering people the chance to buy shares in the scheme.
