BY-ELECTIONS will be held today in Wallingford to find replacements for two town councillors who retired.
The elections are taking after former town mayor Alec Hayton and Kevin Harvey quit the council in July.
Father-of-two Mr Hayton, who has served as mayor twice, joined the council in 1995 but decided over the summer it was time to quit.
He said he decided to retire as he was nearly 75 and was struggling to hear the discussions in the meetings.
There would be polling booths at the Regal Centre off the Market Place and at Fir Tree Junior School in Radnor Road, with ballot boxes open from 7am until 10pm.
Town mayor Ros Lester said earlier she was delighted that seven candidates have come forward to contest the two seats on the council.
She urged "as many people as possible" take the opportunity to vote.
The candidates are Matthew Cockman, Mavis Connell, Rob McGregor, Elisabeth Neighbour, James Neighbour, Jeremy Reeve and Lee Upcraft.
Wallingford Town Council is not run on a party-political basis and once the two new councillors have been voted in there will be 16 councillors.
