Killer driver deported back to UK
10:40am Friday 20th April 2012 in Wallingford
Marcus Barney
MARCUS Barney, who caused the death of an Oxfordshire woman four days before her wedding almost six years ago, has been extradited back to the UK after going on the run to Australia.
Barney, pictured, was jailed for seven years in 2007 for causing death by dangerous driving after he forced Carol Tegg, 26, from Gallowstree Common, to swerve into the path of an oncoming bus on the A4074 near Woodcote. But in August 2009 the 27-year-old went on the run from Sudbury Open Prison, in Derbyshire, after being given temporary leave.
Last year he was arrested after being stopped for speeding in New South Wales and had since been held in a maximum-security prison.
The Government asked for him to be sent back to the UK to serve the remaining 450 days of his sentence.
Barney, from Hinckley, in Leicestershire, is now in custody in Derbyshire after being arrested on suspicion of failing to return to prison having been temporarily released, following his return to Britain.
Sgt Dick Thorpe, of Thames Valley Police, said: “We’re liaising closely with Carol Tegg’s family, who are relieved that Marcus Barney has been brought back to face justice.”

Lock the weasel up and forget where you put the key. He obviously has no remorse for what he did and has no respect for safe driving either by the look of it. Waster.
