Dead man was poisoned by alcohol

A MAN may have been lying dead in his flat for three days before being found, an inquest in Oxford heard.

Glenn Maynard had consumed enough drink for doctors to associate alcohol poisoning with his death, an Oxfordshire coroner was told on Thursday. The 55-year-old had 279mg of alcohol per litre of blood in his system, the drink drive limit being 80mg.

Police officers broke into his first floor home in St Mary’s Street, Wallingford, after friends and family had not heard from him for three days.

They found him slumped on the sofa.

Prof Ian Roberts gave the official cause of death as alcohol intoxication and heart disease.

Coroner Darren Salter recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
