THIS Wantage pub has transformed itself into a horrifying version of Alice in Wonderland to scare customers this Halloween.

Staff at the Swan, in Market Place, have decked the inn out with a “Malice in Wonderland” theme.

The outside has already been clad in a Queen of Hearts’ castle facade, with the arm of a giant Alice trapped inside reaching out.

Her eyes are also peering out of the lead-lined windows.

To get inside customers will have to crawl through a narrow corridor lined with “flying books”, and inside there will be tables full of books and potions. To get into the back bar, patrons will even have to walk through the Cheshire Cat’s jaws.

Anyone who wants to get into the pub on Friday night will have to join the mandatory costume competition, with £50 prizes for best-dressed man, woman and group.

Landlord Craig Gradwell, 45, said: “People really go to town on the costumes, spend all summer making them and really look forward to it.”

Wantage rock covers band Electrichead will play in the back bar, dressed in neon colours illuminated by a black light.
