AMATEUR and professional artists are being invited to join an art competition themed around Oxfordshire's historic Ridgeway.
The Friends of the Ridgeway preservation group is asking for entries now to its Swire Ridgeway Arts Prize.
Entries can be in any visual medium including painting, sketch, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and even poetry and prose.
Works will be shown at a two-day exhibition at Uffington's Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall at the feet of the ancient roadway near Wantage on Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22.
Prizes will be awarded on the second day.
Friends of the Ridgeway chairman Anthony Burdall said: "The aim of the competition is to bring The Ridgeway to life not only as a long distance trail but also as an artistic inspiration, and to show The Ridgeway, its history and environs, in all their aspects throughout all the seasons.
"The theme of the competition is ‘Spirit of the Ridgeway’."
The deadline for entries is Thursday, March 22.
Submitted art works accompanied by a completed entry form must be delivered to Anthony Burdall, 2 Fernham Road, Faringdon, SN7 7JY.
