"CONSIDER yourself part of the family – and while you're at it, lend us a dog."

An amateur dramatic group staging a production of beloved orphan musical Oliver! in just two weeks' time have put out a desperate appeal for an acting dog.

Wantage's Jigsaw Stage Productions had found the perfect pooch for the part of Bill Sykes's canine companion Bullseye, but with just a fortnight to go he has had to pull out, leaving them dogless.

The group's Chris Jones said: "With just over two weeks to go to opening night our very important canine cast member Bullseye (whose real name is Oliver!) has had to withdraw from the show for health reasons.

"This means that we are desperately searching for a dog to play the part of Bill Sykes' dog, Bullseye.

"The only criteria really is that he's (hopefully) a bull terrier or similar breed and that he's well behaved."

Jigsaw is staging its version of Lionel Bart's musical at the Beacon, Wantage, April 4-7, and the Cornerstone in Didcot, April 26-28.

The role of Oliver is being shared by two local boys - Thomas Hulme and George Shepherd, and the Dodger is being played by Felix Potter and Lucas Andrew.

Tickets are available now from both venues.

Anyone who may be able to help with the dog situation is asked to call Rosemary Stickland on 01235 767509.
