A round-up of recent cases before magistrates in the county.
OXFORD
Carly Billingham, 19, of Castle Close, Wallingford, admitted shoplifting a pair of jeans from River Island in Oxford on January 29. Told to carry out 90 hours’ unpaid work with £29 compensation.
Lewis Cairns, 23, of Park View, Crowmarsh Gifford, admitted possessing Class B cannabis at Lewknor on February 7. Fined £100 and a £15 victims’ surcharge.
Glen Ramsay, 36, of Cowley Road, Oxford, admitted shoplifting a Bosch sander and handheld Hoover, worth £89.98, from Homebase in Oxford on February 12. Given a four-month prison sentence, suspended for a year, due to prolific offending and previous record. Also given a 12-month supervision requirement and six months’ treatment for drug dependency, and £40 costs.
Adam McVay, 26, of Haven Vale, Wantage, convicted of using words or behaviour to cause fear of unlawful violence in Oxford on February 15. Fined £100, £100 costs and a £15 victims’ surcharge.
Marie Bunyan, 53, of Clear Water Place, Oxford, admitted shoplifting £25.80 worth of food from the Co-op in Banbury Road, Oxford, on February 5. Given a nine-month conditional discharge and told to pay £40 costs.
Aimee Harris, 22, of Bluebell Court, Oxford, admitted using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress in Oxford on January 22. Given a 20-month conditional discharge and told to pay £25 costs.
Sarah Muirhead, 33, of Barton Village Road, Oxford, admitted driving while disqualified and driving without insurance in Barton Village Road on January 26. Also admitted failing to comply with a community order by failing to work as instructed on January 20. Also resentenced for original offence for which the community order was given — driving without a licence on August 31 in Beaumont Road. Jailed for six weeks due to it being second driving while disqualified within five months. Also banned from driving for a year.
Andrew Lennon, 28, of Stone Meadow, Oxford, admitted shoplifting male grooming products valued at £160.96 from Superdrug and assaulting a police constable in Oxford on November 4. Jailed for eight weeks because assault involved a headbutt and followed a shoplifting offence.
Adam Christian, 21, of Hockmore Tower, Oxford, admitted failing to comply with a curfew order. Given an extra seven days’ curfew.
Sean Herman, 22, of Isley Road, Oxford, admitted failing to comply with a community order by failing to work as instructed on January 20. Given an extra 20 hours’ unpaid work and £50 costs.
Mitchell Morris, 22, of Sorrell Road, Oxford, admitted failing to comply with a community order by failing to work as instructed on January 24. Given an extra 15 hours’ unpaid work and £50 costs.
Ashcon Moraveg-Oskooie, 25, of Bulan Road, Oxford, admitted driving without insurance and driving without a licence on August 30 in Old Road, Oxford. Fined £50 and a £15 victims’ surcharge.
BANBURY
Samantha Gilkes, 21, of Calthorpe Road, Banbury, admitted assault by beating on February 12 in Banbury. Given a six-month conditional discharge with £85 costs.
Lesley Langman, 47, of Orchard Road, Ardley, admitted drink driving on Somerton Road on February 11. Namely having 104 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35. Fined £1,000, a £15 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs. Banned from driving for two years, reducible by six months on completion of a course.
Graham Mates, 40, of Ribston Close, Banbury, convicted of assault by beating in Banbury on November 7. Given a 12-month community order and banned from pubs and nightclubs for six months. Also told to pay £350 costs.
Bradley Smith, 19, of Rosina Walk, Banbury, admitted seven counts of receiving stolen goods valued at £1,060, namely outdoor masonry including staddlestones, in Witney, on November 6. Told to do 80 hours’ unpaid work and pay £30 costs.
Danny Hood, 26, of West Hawthorn Road, Ambrosden, admitted criminal damage to a cell door in Banbury between January 22 and January 24. Given a 12-month conditional discharge and told to pay £50 compensation and £85 costs.
Paul Baylis, 28, of Dover Avenue, Banbury, admitted assault by beating and £179.12 criminal damage to a VW Passat in Wroxton on December 31. Fined £170, a £15 victims’ surcharge and told to pay £264.12 compensation.
Anna Blaszczyk, 29, of Broughton Road, Banbury, admitted drink driving in Southam Road, Banbury, on February 2. Namely having 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35. Fined £230, costs of £80 and a £15 victims’ surcharge. Banned from driving for 20 months, reducible by five months on completion of a course.

I'm sorry but this is plain stupid!
You get a bigger fine for speeding for heavens sake and the cost of insurance makes a £50 fine very worthwhile doesn't it? What the heck is going on with our stupid justice system? Magistrates - hang your heads in shame!

I'm sorry but this is plain stupid!
You get a bigger fine for speeding for heavens sake and the cost of insurance makes a £50 fine very worthwhile doesn't it? What the heck is going on with our stupid justice system? Magistrates - hang your heads in shame!
