NEIGHBOURS woke to the sound of water gushing down their street after a pipe burst.
Police closed off part of Ham Road, Wantage, from about 9am on Saturday after water made the road impassable for cars. It was closed between Ickleton Road and the Hamfield junction.
Thames Water turned off the mains at about 10.30am and 25 homes had no water until 3.30pm.
Thames Water spokesman Simon Evans said: “We are really sorry to the customers affected by a burst water main at the Hamfield junction of Ham Road.
“Our engineers arrived as soon as possible and worked throughout the day to fix the pipe.”
Lynn Coulson, 56, of Ham Road, said: “It was gushing down the hill, it was amazing. I would like to get out, but I would probably have to take a boat.”
Neighbour Brian Johnson, 63, said: “All I heard were the cars splashing.”
Thames Water confirmed in the past four years there have been three burst pipes along Ham Road, all in different locations.
