FORMER postman Trevor Bateman made his final journey on a trailer pulled by a tractor yesterday.

The tractor-trailer cortege took place at the funeral of Mr Bateman, from Charlbury, at the town’s St Mary’s Church.

Rev Jan Fielden, associate priest, who conducted the funeral, said: “Mr Bateman’s parents lived at Talbot Farm in Thames Street.

“He was a postman in Chipping Norton until a few years ago and lived on his own.

“He was a very popular local man with lots of friends and had a smallholding where he grew potatoes.

“He was only 63 and died from a suspected heart attack.”

Hymns at the service included Morning Has Broken and We Plough the Fields and Scatter.

Mr Bateman died on July 5.
