A block of flats in Witney was evacuated after a woman accidentally crashed a BMW into her mother's ground-floor flat.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Ashcombe Crescent after the incident, which happened about 11.40am on Saturday.

Paramedics treated three people who did not need hospital treatment, and structural engineers were called in to check the building's safety.

Neighbour Ray Smith, a retired decorator living nearby, said: "The driver was a lady whose mother lives in one of the ground-floor flats.

"I think she was dropping off shopping.

"The car had gone through into her mother's bedroom and she was in there at the time.

"Everyone was all right but they were all very shocked."

After the police, fire and ambulance crews arrived on scene, the crescent, as well as Woodford Way, was closed to traffic.

The roads were not reopened until about 5pm and neighbours said the car was removed from the wall between 6pm and 7pm and loaded on to a truck.

Mr Smith said the residents of at least one flat have not yet been allowed to return.
