Two Witney houses were burgled after doors were left unlocked.

Thames Valley Police said the first burglary happened on Saturday between 10.15pm and 11pm in Oxlease in Witney.

Thieves entered through an unlocked front door and stole a purse from a handbag that had been left in a hallway.

It was followed by burglary between 6.45am and 10am yesterday.

Burglars stole an iPad from a home in Newland Mill, after getting in through an unlocked back door.

Police also revealed a woman saw three men this morning walk into her back garden in Bourton Close at about 5.25am.

When spotted, they rode away on bicycles, police said.

Two of the men were reported to be white and one of the three was wearing a blue and white bobble hat.

Det Con Kev Middlecote, of Witney police station, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have heard or seen suspicious behaviour in the area.

“Offenders are targeting unsecured properties and, although West Oxfordshire as a whole has a very low crime rate, there are still burglaries taking place.

“Please make sure you lock and secure your homes when you go to bed or leave the property.”
