RESIDENTS in Charlbury could finally see an end to their mobile phone nightmare as work to upgrade a mast is set to finish tomorrow evening.

Locals said they have been without signal since last Tuesday when a mast on top of Charlbury Fire Station was taken down for works.

Trevor Taylor from nearby Spelsbury said: “We had no advance warning, the phone simply went dead.

“I find it unbelievable that a company in the communications industry can be so bad at communicating.

He added: “There is still no signal and no indication of when the work will be completed and service restored.

“If we want to check for voice or text messages we have to drive to another area.”

Mr Taylor also voiced concerns over a lack of compensation being offered to residents.

More than 50 posts have been made on a local Charlbury forum page complaining about the issue which has affected multiple networks.

O2, carrying out the upgrade gave an update but said they would not be giving out compensation.

An O2 spokesman said: “We are upgrading a mast in the Charlbury area and we expect to complete work by tomorrow evening, Tuesday, July 28.

“We apologise to those customers who have experienced intermittent service during this time but we hope they will agree it’s worth it when they are able to access 4G services in the future.”
