A fleet of tankers is being used to take sewage away from a pumping station at Cogges in Witney.

Thames Water confirmed a problem with one of its pumping stations just off Stanton Harcourt Road in Cogges, means tankers are needed to stop sewage spilling into the surrounding fields and houses.

The problem started this morning and is unlikely to be fixed for some days.

A Thames Water spokesman issued a statement saying: "A problem at our pumping station means waste water isn't being carried through the network of pipes as effectively as usual.

"We're sorry for any disruption the tankers are causing but they're needed to prevent sewage spilling out into roads, properties and the environment.

"We're hoping to have the pumping station back to normal early next week so we can stop using the tankers."
