He said: “We had such a laugh driving it down the motorway. One of the highlights of the whole weekend for me was when we were blasting Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and singing at the top of our voices. People were driving past filming us.”

The 50-year-old said he was disappointed that the shed only reached 70mph as he knew it could go faster.

He added: “The timers were under pressure and only let me use a quarter of a mile of the runway. But at the end they let me have another go and I used the whole mile and got to 80.46mph.”

Mr Nicks built the wooden shed on top of his 1999 2.8l V6 Volkswagen Passat, a project which cost £5,000 and took just over six months to complete.
