FIREFIGHTERS forced their way into a burning flat in Carterton this morning to rescue a woman after neighbours reported hearing a smoke alarm.
Fire crews from Witney Fire Station arrived at Heather Close at around 9am today and found smoke coming from a ground floor flat.
Crew members forced their way in and rescued a woman, who was then treated at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service.
Incident commander Mark Ames said: "The woman had a lucky escape, due to this happening during the day, and her neighbours being around to raise the alarm. Had this same incident occurred in the middle of the night the outcome could have been far worse.
"This highlights the importance of having working smoke alarms, and the need to regularly check that they are working."
