A TRADITIONAL warm West Oxfordshire welcome was given to Cathy Price on Saturday when she finished her trek around Britain's 656 Red Lion pubs at the Red Lion in Northmoor.

The fitness trainer and mother-of-one from Preston, ended her epic pub crawl at the community pub where she was greeted by about 50 people.

She was presented with a bouquet and an engraved tankard foaming with a new beer called 656, specially brewed by Hook Norton Brewery for the occasion.

Miss Price, 53, was full of praise for pub, which was bought by villagers 18 months ago and is now run by landlords Lisa Lyne and Ian Neale.

She said: "For me the Red Lion, Northmoor, would be my perfect Red Lion pub. The food is good, it's very professionally run, the community is strong and there are lots of village characters.

"Lisa was so nice and welcoming when I phoned up so I decided to make this my ultimate Red Lion."

She added: "It's great to see it doing so well, not all of them are. About 40 have closed since I started my quest."

Miss Price's trek started in 2011 when she was sat in a Red Lion in the Lake District and wondered how many Red Lions there were.

Now she plans to take her quest overseas to visit pubs in countries including Dubai, Australia and America.
