Motorists are being warned to avoid the A40 near Eynsham after a crane toppled off a lorry this evening.
The main road has been partially blocked after the crane fell from the back of the HGV and blocked part of the eastbound carriageway near the B4449 roundabout.
Police are at the scene and while the road is passable officers are urging motorists to avoid the area if possible.
Officers have confirmed that while the A40 has been reduced to one lane eastbound, traffic is now moving towards Oxford again.
But the force said the road is unlikely to re-open fully until after 11pm tonight.
