JUST 48 hours after breaking his leg in two places, a teenage musician decided in true rock star fashion the show must go on.

Twisted State of Mind guitarist Luke Ashby broke two bones and dislocated his ankle playing rugby for Wood Green School, Witney, on Wednesday last week.

The 15-year-old was only discharged from the John Radcliffe Hospital on Friday afternoon, but that same evening he appeared on stage with his bandmates in front of about 100 people.

The band, which also features 16-year-old bass guitarist Ben Comley and 15-year-old drummer Damon Marshall, had sold 30 tickets to the show, which included several other acts, and decided they could not let their fans down.

Luke said: “After it happened I was in shock. It was very painful – I looked at my leg and started screaming. I don’t remember much more after that.”

After having two pins put into his leg on Thursday, he decided he would do anything he could to play the scheduled show at the Courtyard Youth Arts Centre in Bicester.

The guitarist said: “I didn’t want to let anyone down – my bandmates or the people who had bought tickets to watch us.

“I talked to my dad about what we could do and we borrowed a wheelchair from the hospital.

“I was discharged from hospital on Friday afternoon went straight home and then straight to the gig.”

The heavy metal trio, who all live in Witney, have just returned from their third tour of America playing new material from their first album – recorded with producer Chris Tsangarides who has worked with the likes of Judas Priest and Thin Lizzy.

The band are used to jumping around the stage in high energy performances but Friday was a more subdued affair for Luke.

He said: “It was quite frustrating. I couldn’t move around but I ended up sort of hopping on my wheelchair.

“The band were really supportive and said I didn’t have to play but I wanted to out of respect for them and the fans.

“Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl played with a broken leg once and everyone was comparing me to him which was great.”

Grohl broke his leg after falling off stage in Sweden but, after receiving medical treatment backstage, finished the set.

Twisted State of Mind’s manager Eric Marshall said: “Everyone is extremely proud of Luke and his commitment to the fans who bought tickets.”
