BOTH Chris Collier's little girls have needed urgent treatment at Oxford Children's Hospital and now he is determined to give something back.

His eldest daughter Jessica, five, had a hernia operation at the hospital a few years ago while his one-year-old Amy had a difficult week-long stay battling bronchiolitis just before Christmas.

The warehouse manager from Witney has decided it is time to take part in the OX5 Run and fundraise for the hospital.

He said: "I just want to give something back to the hospital and the staff who looked after my girls.

"It was a scary time, particularly when Amy was staying there but I was able to stay with her the whole week which was such a help.

"She had a bad chest infection and was on antibiotics and oxygen - it was horrible for a parent as she's only a baby."

Bronchiolitis is a respiratory tract infection that affects babies and young children under two years old - it can cause problems with feeding and breathing.

Mr Collier said Amy, as well as Jessica, had now fully recovered.

He said: "She's fine now and is a happy, normal baby.

"There is a chance she will be more prone to chest infections in the coming years but she is doing well - and Jessica is a perfectly healthy five-year-old.

Money from the run goes towards specialist nurses, equipment, toys and games, and anything that will make a child's stay more comfortable.

The 36-year-old, who lives with his fiancee, the girls' mother Kayleigh Patrick, has already raised £400 for the cause.

He said: "The extras they have, like the toys, do really come in handy.

"But the nurses and staff were amazing - they put your mind at ease.

"There is always someone looking after you and always someone for you to talk to."

The father-of-two snapped ligaments in his leg fours years ago but has been running regularly in training for the five-mile run at Blenheim Palace on Sunday.

He said: "It's going well I have been running twice a week and doing about three to four miles each time.

"I'm surprise I can after my injury but I'm so pleased to have raised £400 so far - most of which has been kind donations from work colleagues."

The OX5 Run is being sponsored by recruitment firm Allen Associates for the eighth year.

Last year’s event raised £106,000 for the children’s hospital and the run, which is now in its 14th year, has chalked up more than £850,000.

The money raised is used to fund medical equipment and other aspects of children’s care.
