AN OPERA singer and her loyal Labrador are quickly becoming YouTube sensations after posting videos online to teach children how to sing.

Amy Webber, from Long Hanborough, near Witney. takes seven-year-old Lola out into the Oxfordshire countryside for a filming session once a month, in a bid to promote both singing and the importance of being outdoors.

The 26-year-old former student of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester said: "After studying, I started teaching and I realised I loved working with children.

"I could really see the benefits of singing in a class situation. There's no wrong or right with singing and I thought I'd love to teach it on a bigger scale."

Well-behaved Lola got involved in Miss Webber's videos after a few of her pupils spoke to her about their fear of dogs.

She added: "I said to them, if you met Lola you would never be scared of her.

"They watch my videos, so when they saw her they said they didn't think they would be scared."

In her videos Miss Webber teaches simple, popular songs, as well as ones she has written myself, while Lola sits quietly next to her.

The pair make the films in the park or on a walk, and then Miss Webber adds the on-screen lyrics and piano accompaniment.

She said: "With each song I teach basic rhythm and voice techniques, and there are always plenty of fun actions to learn.

"I hope the videos will be watched by children and parents at home all across the world, but also that schools will use them as a resource for singing.

"Because the songs have actions even those too young, or shy, to sing can participate."

The former Bartholomew School pupil's dream is to be a TV presenter, and she hopes to get her name out through her YouTube channel 'Amy and Lola'.

She said: "I can really see it as a little section on CBeebies or something, like an Amy and Lola feature.

"I love kids and I love singing and I love dogs – so I want to spread the love."

Miss Webber splits her time between Manchester and Long Hanborough, by teaching in the northern city during the week and coming home to be with her mum and Lola at the weekend.
