JIMI Hendrix may not have made an appearance, but Oxfordshire was still rocking for the annual Woodstock Live festival.

The 11th incarnation of the popular live music event featured two days packed with an eclectic mix of bands and solo acts on Saturday and Sunday.

With a nod to the famous 1969 New York state festival of the same name, pop, rock and folk acts took to the stage in Market Place in the heart of the historic town centre.

Jenny Payne was there to support her brother, who organised the chilled-out early Sunday afternoon programme of live acoustic acts.

She said: "I go every year and it's just brilliant.

"There's so much young fresh talent, I think some of them are going to be really big."

The Kidlington mum attended with her daughter Lara, 14, and niece Rosanna, 13.

She said: "It's about keeping music live and supporting local artists. There's nothing quite like it."

Up-and-coming Witney band Leader, who sold out the O2 Academy in Oxford earlier this year, were Saturday's headliners.

They were joined on the line-up by a host of other acts including the Nikki Loy Band, the Shapes and Wednesday's Wolves.

Rounding off the festivities on the Sunday night were the Oxford Beatles, the city's premier tribute act to the Fab Four.

Woodstock resident Matthew Towland attended the festival with his children Evelyn, 6, and Rufus, 21 months.

He said: "Woodstock is the kind of town where you typically run into a couple of people that you know just walking through town so having a event like this is always going to be really sociable.

"I have been for the last three years with the children.

"Whatever time you go, the standard of the acts seems to be very high and it's so well organised."

"This year the weather was perfect, we had a lovely time.

"Everyone from young babies to the elderly seemed to be enjoying themselves. My son was at the front dancing with the rabbits."

The free event is run by a team of volunteers.

It is supported by local businesses such as the Woodstock Arms and the Blenheim Buttery who donate money or equipment to ensure the event can take place every year.
