A CARE home in Witney is celebrating a string of successes.

Merryfield House Nursing Home, in New Yatt Road, picked up an award for best manager and best employer at the Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers annual awards.

The wins come on the heels of a report by the Care Quality Commission which branded the home 'outstandingly responsive' and 'good' across the board.

Manager Fran Torres, who was celebrating her own award, talked about what made the home, which is part of Peverel Court Care, so special.

She said: "Working for Peverel Court Care is like being home away from home.

"It is the warmth and the family feel, how the company values each individual team member and encourages them in personal fulfilment and job satisfaction.

"The succession of my roles was not only from hard work, dedication and passion with care for the elderly. It was made easier because of the support I get from the team."

Recently the Oxfordshire Association of Care providers hosted Talking Care: Inspiration for All at the Kassam Stadium Conference and Events Centre, Oxford.

The event aimed to recognise, celebrate and acknowledge the excellence in care in adult social care in the county.

Afterwards awards were dished out to social care providers throughout the county for the Oxfordshire Care Awards 2018.

Eddy McDowall, chief executive of OACP said: “It’s important that social care has the opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work it does, day in and day out. The awards recognise how people and services make a difference every day.

"In addition, this all-round event gave people working in a very pressured sector, the opportunity to come together - it truly was inspirational - there are some amazing people, companies and organisations working in adult social care in Oxfordshire."

Other winners included Angie Ledbury. Ms Ledbury, of Wantage Nursing Home, received the care home worker award.

Andrej Ivanovic, of Style Acre, a Wallingford-based service that supports people with learning disabilities and autism, picked up the Oxfordshire hero award.

The event was a double success for Merryfield House, which recently enjoyed a positive inspection report from the Care Quality Commission.

The CQC gave the home a ranking of 'good' in all categories aside from responsiveness, which was marked 'outstanding'.

The report said: "Care planning was fixed upon having the individual at the heart of their care. Relatives said support was extremely responsive because staff really understood the principles of outstanding personalised care.
