FIREFIGHTERS have credited seatbelts for saving lives during a three-car crash on the A40.

Four people suffered minor injuries in the crash near Eynsham on Monday, which caused a road closure in both directions.

Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service has used the crash to hammer home the importance of wearing seatbelts.

Station Manager and road safety officer Andy Ford said: "There were a number of occupant in the three vehicles.

"Everyone involved was wearing seatbelts, which definitely prevented any serious injuries.

"I would remind everyone to ensure all occupants wear a seatbelt - they save lives and prevent serious injury."

All three emergency services attended the crash at about 4.30pm, including fire crews from Witney, Chipping Norton and Kidlington.

Pictures released by the fire service show the shattered bonnet of a black car and debris across the road.
