NHS Oxfordshire has claimed a ‘clerical error’ was responsible for a Witney man being told he would have to wait 16 months for root canal surgery.
Martin Eldridge, 43, was told he would not be able to have the specialist surgery on one of his molars until June 2011.
Less than 24 hours after the Gazette called NHS Oxfordshire, Mr Eldridge was offered an earlier appointment.
A statement released on the NHS Oxfordshire website said: “The individual featured in recent news articles was, due to a clerical error sent an appointment for the wrong specialist clinic.
“When the referral was reviewed (as it would have been if the patient or their dentist queried it with the specialist clinic) their appointment was changed to the correct specialist clinic as originally intended.”
