Polcie are appealing for witnesses to a burglary in Carterton.
Between 2.30pm and 3.30pm yesterday, a house was broken into in Black Bourton Road and 800 packets of cigarettes and a 26-inch flat-screen television was stolen.
Det Sgt Dick White, of Witney CID, said: “The offenders smashed the glass to the front door to gain entry to property. Between 1pm and 3pm, a witness saw a man walking away from the address, in the direction of the town centre, with a television under his arm.
“He was white, is in his late teens to early twenties, about 5ft 8in tall, medium build, with dark hair.
“I appeal to anyone who may have seen a man matching this description or heard or saw anything suspicious at the address to contact police immediately.”
Anyone with information that could assist police enquiries is urged to contact Det Con White via Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police and don’t want to leave your name contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

800 packets of cigarettes? Hmmmm. I hope tax was paid on those. Just puzzled as to why someone would have £4,000 worth of fags at home....
