Hi-tech firm’s magnets stolen

SEVEN large electromagnetic parts have been stolen from Siemens Magnet Technology in Wharf Road, Eynsham.

The company designs and makes superconducting magnets for medical scanners used around the world.

Thieves broke into the compound and stole scrapped magnet coils overnight on Saturday, March 31, and the following morning.

Police have described the items as “large and extremely heavy” and said several people and a large vehicle would have been required to move them.

Siemens have said the coils were “of little worth”.

Anyone with any information should call the police on 101.

Because they are worth a lot.

Exactly. All metal is worth a lot at the moment, which is why there have been so many signal cable theft incidents on the railways. Siemens might like to play this down but I think the gang that did this will be more than aware of the worth of their haul.
