Villagers tested their might against each other in a grand tug-of-war at the Ramsden Fete and Companion Dog Show.

Four-legged friends also took centre stage as dog lovers entered their pooches in 10 different classes at the fete on Saturday, which was opened by BBC presenter Sue Cook.

Sarah Snowdon, 22, pictured inset, from Finstock, entered six-month-old Ruby inthe puppy and local dog classes.

The pup walked away with the second place in the local dog class.

Miss Snowdon said: “I’m pleased she won a prize. It’s all a bit of good fun.”

Visitors also enjoyed refreshments, stalls, morris and maypole dancing and games.

The event raised money for St James Church and the village hall.

Royal Oak pub bar manager Jules King, 47, said: “It was brilliant. We were really lucky with the weather too.”
