ANOTHER 3,000 homes and businesses in Oxfordshire will be provided with high-speed broadband as part of BT’s £2.5m investment into the technology.
It will see Chipping Norton given a high speed connection – taking the number of properties in the county up to 155,000.
John Weaver, BT’s South East regional director, said: “The arrival of fibre broadband in Chipping Norton is a massive shot in the arm for the local economy, creating new businesses, jobs and educational opportunities.
“As more and more people get connected to the fibre broadband network, it’s increasingly important that those living in our more rural areas don’t miss out.
“Across the UK, public bodies are developing plans to boost broadband speeds in even the most challenging areas.
“We want to help the UK achieve world-class digital connectivity and make sure the communities where we provide services and jobs remain vibrant, strong and connected.”
BT says that fibre broadband could give a typical town’s economy a £143m boost as well as creating 225 new jobs and 140 new start-up businesses.
Chipping Norton is one of 12 towns in the South East expected to be connected in 2013.
