No holiday camp

Sir – In reference to the two letters published (December 4), the first by Matthew Evans and the second by Daniel Emlyn-Jones.

It was beyond comprehension just how much they were trying to convince us, the public, how wonderful it was that now all animals to be experimented on were going to be housed in the same building.

Whatever the facilities are, no animal will survive, even the ones at present kept for breeding purposes. The public must remember that this is not a holiday camp, a home away from home, or a nice place for the animals awaiting some experiment to be performed on them.

Clean cages, windows to see out of, etc, mean damn little to a mouse or rat with a cancerous growth, or a primate that has had part of its brain removed, or whatever other experiment some vivisector may dream up.

It is hideous to think of the pain a supposedly qualified person inflicts, but have your readers considered what will happen when the student vivisector gets their hand on a knife? It beggars belief.

And finally, I say to Daniel Emlyn-Jones, I sincerely hope that he is following his own advice and donating his spare time to helping the unloved, starved and tortured, because this is what the animals rights people are attempting to do — help the unloved, starved and tortured animals of the world.
