Round-up

MATT Dawson scored four tries as Chipping Norton came on strong to defeat Harwell 41-11 in the BB&O Premier Division at Greystones.

The match doubled up as their Oxfordshire Shield first-round clash, so Chippy had two reasons to celebrate.

Harwell started the match confidently and surprised the home side with a try from fly half Andy Lee, converted by Jack Robinson.

Chipping Norton hit back with excellent play from their forwards, Dean Beauchamp getting the first try and Dawson the second, Barry Nutt converting one.

A Robinson penalty kept Harwell in touch, but Chippy took control in the second half.

Two early tries from Dawson made it 22-10.

Harwell spurned a couple of opportunities to get back into the game and paid for this as Chippy ran in three more tries from Dawson, Nutt and Richard Flather, Nutt converting two.

Bicester pipped Hungerford 31-29 thanks to a late try from hooker Jake Holdsworth, converted by scrum half Mike Harris.

Wing Matt Duncalf, prop Dave Ahu-Gooch, Harris and full back Dave Aslett scored first-half tries for Bicester, with fly half Tom Bass and centre Ryan Biscoe kicking conversions.

Hungerford trailed 24-14 at the break, with wing Ben Shand and centre Chris Woodruff crossing over and full back Mark Boulton converting both.

Tries from Shand, Woodruff and fly half Dominic Taylor looked to have won it for the visitors before Holdsworth and Harris struck.

Full back Benny Samuel and wing Robert Tyreman grabbed four tries apiece to help Abingdon hammer visitors Faringdon 74-3 in the BB&O Championship.

Scrum half Luke Matthews scored twice and centre Bart Madison added the last, with fly half Mark Roberts slotting eight conversions and a penalty.

Darren Clark scored Faringdon’s only points with a penalty, while Luke Gerry impressed after replacing injured hooker Jon Woodward.

Wheatley climbed to third with a 49-5 home demolition of Kingsclere.

Simon Chadbone, Jason Laman and Dan Rule got the ball rolling with early tries.

Nick Banton (2), Ben Kelsey (2), Rule, and Mike Lasko completed their tally, with Laman converting two.

Didcot slipped to a 13-7 defeat at Aldermaston in the BBO Championship, despite taking an early lead through Joe Leverson’s try converted by Paul Costello.
