Oxford United's hopes of keeping Lee Cox have ended after they were unable to agree a deal with Swindon Town.

The midfielder spent the first half of the season with the U's on a loan deal which expired after Tuesday's 1-0 win over Cheltenham Town.

Both Cox and United were keen to arrange another spell to cover the rest of the campaign, but nothing has come from talks this week.

U's boss Chris Wilder said: "That's one that won't be getting extended.

"There's always quite a lot of complexities in terms of making a deal happen, so I've spoken to Lee and wished him all the best."

Bit short of Midfield players now then, just Heslop and Leven fit, Whing and Chapman sat on the sidelines.

Oh well it was good while it lasted.

Shame, guess we just don't have the funds to sign any decent players.
Need to fill the gaps with our injuries & players going back to their clubs.

Shame really as he will unlikely get a game at STFC, unless of course we can offload him on loan again. There's still time though for you lot to cough some decent akers - may be a cat and mouse game being played here ...

Reading between the lines i think the enemy wants Cox off their books all together to take in another player offering them a longer term deal which they would be unable to do if they let him back out on loan. I think if Oxford offered the player a permanent deal the enemy would let him go but obviously Wilder and friends are not prepared to make that commitment. Looks like the best we can hope for in the january transfer window is yet even more loanees.

Not convinced by Cox personally - a Joe Average midfielder
lacking any genuine quality. He has a decent engine but his passing
disappointed me and I saw the vast majority of the games he played in.
Not remotely close to Whingy as a sitting midfielder.

Can't believe Di Canio bought the guy - he'd never get in the Swindon midfield now for sure.

I thank Lee for is service and hope and trust CW has got other irons in the fire.

You ain't to wide of the mark with what I saw of him, for L2 he could be okay - but L1 nah !!

Why read between the lines when clearly you've no idea what might have happened, nor do you know what you are unaware of. Is the rest of your life so miserable, or do you save your misery for comments on Oxford United?

desperately short in midfield now asneither chapman or whing are anywhere near to a return, the lack of funds in the transfer kitty mean we will be looking for loanees once again.and will need to be very lucky to get any to do as well for us as forster caskey and cox did
. fingers crossed for sat as i feel we will need a bit of luck against shef utd.
