FORMER Chinnor flanker Tom Johnson has retained his place in England’s Elite Player Squad (EPS) for the Six Nations.

The 30-year-old Exeter Chiefs forward played in England’s first two Autumn Internationals against Fiji and Australia before losing his spot to Northampton’s Tom Wood.

But the ex-Oxford Brookes student remains part of head coach Stuart Lancaster’s plans and will push for a place in the squad to face Scotland on February 2.

Wasps wing Christian Wade, who appeared for Chinnor in 2009, is included in the England Saxons squad.

Meanwhile, Chinnor have marked their 50th anniversary with a commemorative beer.

Named ‘The Falcon’, it was launched on Saturday when Chinnor beat Bournemouth in National 2 South.

  • OXFORD Rugby Academy director Jamie Lakin was delighted with his players’ effort as they saw off Henley 13-3 in the OBB Colts League Division 1.

James Stacey kicked hosts Oxford ahead with a penalty after a strong start.

They led 10-0 at half-time after Sean Brook drove over next to the posts and Stacey converted.

Henley came back well and kicked a penalty, but Stacey sealed the spoils with a later three-pointer.

Lakin said: “Henley came with a good team and it was a thrilling exchange.

“The home advantage did play a factor in the game, but I’d like to praise the Academy squad, who started with a strong first 30 and really held their own in what was a tough second half.”
