Oxford United reject loan enquiry

AN approach for a fringe player at Oxford United has been rejected as manager Chris Wilder looks to keep his squad together.

The U’s have had no formal transfer offers for any of their players so far during the January transfer window, but have received an enquiry over the availability of one unnamed player.

But with the squad stretched by injuries and suspensions, Wilder is reluctant to let anyone leave.

He said: “As we’ve seen with the numbers at the moment I can’t afford to let anyone go.

“Although players are coming back it can quickly change, so it has to be right and it wasn’t at the moment.

“Nothing concrete has come in, it was a loose approach about a player who hasn’t been playing regularly.”

The exception could be Luke O’Brien, whose short-term deal expires next week.

The 24-year-old was brought in as cover for Liam Davis, who returned from injury in November, but has had minor niggles since.

Wilder will make a decision after tomorrow’s trip to Bradford.

He said: “Luke’s done great for us, but there has to be a pathway for him to play.

“The reason Luke has played and it got extended is because we’ve had issues with Lev (Peter Leven) and Liam.

“Obviously if those continue we might look to extend Luke.”

Had a good game v Cheltenham , but a nightmare v southend. Guess we need players to be consistent to be successful , which is something oxford utd need , as a club we still fall short because of this reason .

We're in League 2. We're not Barca. We ain't get Messi. League 2 players make mistakes. The guy had one bad game. Once he settled in he has done very well for us. Take a look at the goals Chelsea let in against Swansea. Mistakes at all levels. Get real.

He's done enough to keep him here until the end of the season, As mentioned, one mistake doesn't make somebody a bad player, certainly not at our level. The decision has to be made going forward as Capaldi's contract is up in the summer who do we keep, One Both or neither? Thought Capaldi had a reasonable game in midfield on Tuesday night.

Luke has done ok, never injured and stable so I vote we keep him for the rest of the season, Davis has hamstring hassles and Capaldi is hot and cold.
