Constable: Rovers clash is massive
JAMES Constable is desperate to help Oxford United bounce back to winning ways tomorrow.
The U’s have slipped back from play-off contention in npower League Two after two defeats and a draw in their last three games.
Constable was part of a side which failed to make the most of their chances before losing 1-0 at Southend last weekend and he is fired up to make amends against Bristol Rovers.
He said: “This is a big game, to take one point out of nine isn’t good enough, especially the run we had been on.
“It’s happened a few times this season where we’ve come off shaking our heads and not knowing how we’ve lost – that was definitely the case at Southend.
“Rightly so we got a talking to after the game, the lads as a group know it’s not good enough, we can’t play like that and not take any points.
“It makes tomorrow’s game massively important and they’re on a good run themselves, so it’s key we get out there and get the three points.”
Constable was a target for the Pirates last summer, with the U’s turning down three bids for the striker.
The 28-year-old insists the interest in the past does not mean the game carries an extra edge.
He said: “It was the same situation with Swindon last season, you just get on with it.
“They were obviously keen for me to go there, but I was happy to stay here and nothing’s changed for me.”
