Its not hard to check the official away attendance as being 1932 - it is publically published....

I do have to say that at least some of the incidents were caused by an uncontrolled charge by the mounted police after a minor incident, that actually drove groups of fans together at pace.

Sucess? But surely when the Romans ran such events, all the action happened INSIDE the amphitheatres - their version of football stadiums? This also had the added advantage of allowing fighting and assault of the public to be contained, and never spilling-out into the streets. So, yet another lesson to be learned from the old Romans?

Yet again Oxford becomes an unpleasant and uncomfortable place to be because some stupid little men can't behave themselves travelling to and watching a football game. Drunk, abusive Oxford fans on buses into and out of town. Drunk, yelling Bristol fans on trains and at the station. If they can't behave, take their fun away - make teams play in empty stadiums if their fans can't behave like human beings.

That's a great idea mate, make all footballs clubs bankrupt. This story is well out of order, 3 arrests out of 6,000 people, you get more arrests every Fri and Sat night on George Street and Park End Street, what is your solution there, make all bars and restaurants open their doors but not allow customers in? Typical comment from somebody that hates football. You will always get fights where there are men with different views thrown together, just look at footage from the ukranian and Korean parliaments. Or the violence shown by thousands of students towards the police in London that was far, far greater than that shown yesterday in Oxford, yet did not see you commenting for the colleges that they attended to be closed down, so why do you single out football clubs? OPEN your eyes mate and watch any match from Europe, then you will see what REAL trouble is.

I didn't see much trouble at the Rugby today or the matches yesterday - why are football fans so different.

Very little trouble at football yesterday. The police presence was OTT imo. Dressed up in full riot gear, with attitudes that almost provoke a reaction. Also, what was the helicopter up for?!

It is simple J. Rugby fans come from a different demographic than football fans. Generally Rugby fans have been to Public School and/or University, have a successful life with a nice wife kids and £million house that they do not want to jeopardize, hence the lack of naughty behaviour, also there is not the historic rivalry that comes with football. Whereas with football, from a very early age fans are "born" through family or local ties, come from a working class background, and feel as protective of their club/town as poshies do to their offspring, hence the extreme behaviour (imagine if somebody wanted to harm your child), then we bring into it the social, industrial, religious aspect. Three examples, Arsenal a south london team relocated to North London and became more successful than Tottenham, which was the local team at the time, this was in 1913, still to this day a Tottenham fan will attack an Arsenal fan, for this incursion (as they still see it) into their territory. Now we have Portsmouth and Southampton, when they play eachother the fights are legendary, because of the Strike breaking workers from Southampton who passed the picket lines in Portsmouth 80 odd years ago, that will not be forgiven as it led to hardship for the workers in Portsmouth. And finally religion, Celtic V Rangers, say no more. As we see J, Football and Rugby are as different as a Mature Stilton, and a Tesco Value Mozzarella.

I was at the Priory, helping to raise some money for the Rovers fan, who helped us raise money for Charlotte Nott, last season and then had a heart attack that evening and passed away, three days later. I met up with a lot of Rovers fans, who wanted to say thank you for what we were doing.
I promised them that there wouldn't be any trouble from our fans, in the pub. Their fans were well behaved, to be honest.
Around 2-30pm, I heard a commotion and saw a large number of police officers charging towards the pub entrance. Apparantly, a group of Oxford fans (NOT from the Priory) had done something to provoke the Rovers fans.
I have never seen so many officers at the pub!

I thought the Keystone cops, aka Benny Hill convention lot were hilarious- running around in sync, batons drawn just itching to pound someone, anyone, on the skull.
About time the Hoolies got up to speed and found some Gee gees of their own to compete with TVP's finest, would make for quite a spectacle, more than could be said for the erm football, which was an assault on the senses.
The manager clearly has no pride, just sitting out time until the inevitable, he must know his days at the Club are numbered, if he were to resign most at oufc would say he'd done a reasonable job, with limited ability.
