WELL, I stand corrected and I am sure all UKIP voters will be greatly relieved by Godfrey Bloom’s explanation of UKIP’s behaviour on the Common Fisheries vote earlier this month (Letters, February 21).
He didn’t not vote on the Common Fisheries Policy, he abstained. No doubt 11 of the 12 UKIP MEPs have a similar explanation.
Many of us will struggle to see the distinction, but I have to accept that a man who is listed as 752nd out of 754 MEPs when it comes to participation in roll call votes in the European Parliament, knows far more than I will ever know about the distinction between not turning up to vote at all and turning up but abstaining.
Maybe a similar explanation will now arrive as to why he claims to sit on the environment committee in Brussels, even though that organisation is unaware of his involvement.
